Patterns of Our Lives

This is a tale about how I almost got eaten alive by the patterns of my life. Warning for the readers who prefer to view the world through their rose-colored glasses, reality is about to rear its spiky head.

Through a series of decisions I ended up in a life that contained a whole host of patterns that did not feed my soul. In fact they were draining my life energy. I know I have spoken of this before but I will keep repeating it in the hopes that I can save another from the same fate.

The thing is life patterns can become ruts if we follow them for too long. Ruts can lead to bottomless pits, or so it feels. It is important to step back from our life and see the patterns we are living from a different perspective than from the bottom of the well worn rut. Get the bird’s eye view. What is really going on? Is the rut leading forward towards a desired destination or is it merely getting worn deeper and deeper?

I was going for the deeper and in circles like a snake eating...

When Life is Puzzling

I have often felt in life like a puzzle with pieces missing. Early days had me looking to others as if they held those missing pieces. Yikes, but I suppose it is a stage we all need to go through. I have also had times where the edges of my puzzle were done and the middle was empty. Again, yikes! Now I have tools for when that comes up. Yay! Ah the road to self actualization … what an adventure!

So how is your puzzle looking? Do you know what the image is that you are working towards? Are you flying blind and trying to force pieces together that obviously don’t fit but in your frustration you keep trying anyway?? Are you certain that there really Must be some pieces missing and you feel frustrated? Or how about that Lovely feeling when you find 2 pieces that fit so snuggly that your whole body relaxes and you have renewed faith that you Can do this?

Welcome to life right? It is easy to get anxious when the going is good cuz ya just know that the universe is messing with...

Fly Your Freak Flag, please!

I don’t know about you, but I have spent a good portion of my life trying to be invisible. Society modeled to me that a young girl got a lot of all the wrong type of attention. It felt easier to hide and live in my own world than to fight it. I have tried on numerous tribes over the years trying to find my people, trying to find a safe space to be. I have found many that sort of fit. They each gave me moments of rest and a safe space to be seen. I have never found The One though. I have found many individuals in whose company I could rest and let my Freaky bits out. But I want a full fledged community. I want to feel safe to strut my stuff and let it all hang out.

So here we are. I didn’t have much success joining other tribes so I decided to build one of my own. Thank you for being here. Thanks you for witnessing my unfolding, my unveiling, my being. I feel honored that I can stand in my full Freaky regalia and instead of throwing rotten tomatoes or cat calling you are...

Your Life the Musical

Your life as a musical, how would it go? For mine I’m thinking something along the lines of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer's Night Dream with a Broadway cast singing and dancing through an enchanted wood. There would be magical beings wreaking havoc, intrigue, confusion, people turning into donkeys just to get a different perspective, ending in eventual enlightened clarity and everyone joining hands to dance and sing into the sunset.

And really how different is my life than that really if you were to look at it through metaphors and humor? I have gotten to the point where I categorize the characters in my life not as they are but as they seem to be. My favorite T-shirt quote is, watch it or you’ll end up in my novel. I had a person in my life once that was a creative director who did everything in her power to stifle people’s creativity. If she isn’t meant for a lead villain role I don’t know who is.

If you are a writer you already know how rich...

Overlooked Superpowers

We are brought up to think of superpowers as these Big Save the World from disaster type characteristics. But what about the quiet hero’s in our daily lives? The gregarious pizza maker, the kind crossing guard, the loving friend? I say that superpowers are the characteristics that make you You. They are the parts of you that are strong. The parts of you that you enjoy. The parts of you that bring comfort, light, love, warm fuzzies, relief, a laugh to others. Your superpowers are what make you super.

A kind word spoken at the right time to the right person can save a life. In fact it is more likely to than some dude in tights flying in from another planet to stop a moving train followed around by a makeup crew, wardrobe, cameras and script writers. You are Super. You have Powers. How you choose to use them in the world and best of all, using them in your own life is the fun bit. Imagine leaving the house every morning thinking, Who can I aid today? Not in an invasive I know...

What Are You Really In Control Of?

Most of us at one time or another have believed that we had ultimate control over a situation or even our lives. However, we have all been through enough of life’s twisty bits to know that that simply isn’t true. So why do we strive to control our lives with a heavy hand? Do we feel insecure in our ability to easily navigate the unknown so we attempt to keep the unknown at bay? Are we scared? Do we think that if we have control over everything then we won’t get hurt? Perhaps we think that we can stop time by taking control? Do we desire predictability? It is quite a conundrum and yet we all do it at times.

The thing is that if we practice meeting life on its terms and in its time we will grow stronger. In this strength we will gain an ability to handle anything. If we show up every day ready for what awaits - the great unknown - then we are allowing our lives the potential to shimmer with magic, to dance with grace, to yield potential beyond anything we could ever...

Shall We Dance?

As the world shifts and flexes around us do you feel rigid and fearful or fluid and excited? Ok obviously there are a ton of other combos but the gist is ~ are you clenching and holding on for dear life or are you riding the waves and enjoying the ride?

I am quite comfortable with change, my childhood was a wash in it. I noted that although things were lost along the way, much was also gained that never would have been possible if things had remained static. I do still get unnerved if the change feels too fast for me to easily shift my balance. Even that only lasts for a bit as I slip into the new normal and navigate its idiosyncrasies with the curiosity of an explorer of new land.

So here we are having (hopefully) ridden out a global pandemic. What new things have you learned about yourself, your needs, your desires? Is it possible to weave this new you in with a bit of the old you + the new world = creating the 2021 Cocktail Of The Year?

My hope for myself moving forward is that I...

Following Where My Intuition Leads

I am relying heavily on my intuition these days. I’ve always honored it but now I am making every effort to put it front and center. As you know we have had some interesting events in the recent past. Who prepares for a global pandemic? I wasn’t. My business stopped abruptly on March 17 and I had no plan for what to do. I thought I had spread my business’ resource attraction into many baskets so that together they could carry me through any rough bits. They ALL shut off their income flows on that day. Yikes! I know my story is anything but unique. Many of us had a rough go of it. Many of us lost friends and family. Many of us have suffered loneliness in our isolation.

Back to my intended topic though … intuition. I stood on my land $200 to my name and wondered what next? I took stock of my resources and the one that no pandemic could take away was my intuition. I decided to follow it wherever it chose to lead. It took some practice and many lessons in trust,...

Like a Lazy River

I don’t know about you, but I learned a lot about my natural pace this past year. While I didn’t have a crazy busy life before, it turns out that it was crazier than I like. I am a lazy river. I enjoy occasional quick rapids but mostly I prefer to take things slow and enjoy the view.

In creating this business I turned to the experts for guidance. There were the go-getters telling me to go, go, go, do, do, do, now, now, now. No, thank you! I understand fully that I need to show up, but for me 111% is not sustainable and I want sustainable. I want to enjoy myself, my life, my creation. To that end, I have chosen the lazy river approach. It will all get done. I will get to where I’m going. In this moment however, I am going to bask in the adventure unfolding before me. I am going to wander down side tributaries just to see what’s there. I'm going to luxuriate on riverside beaches for a picnic. I’m going to let my love of...

Curiosity is Good For Your Health and the World

I am happiest when I’m out exploring the world, camera in hand, dog at my side, no particular destination and no time demands. What takes over for me at these times is my curiosity. What in the world is there for me to discover? What can I witness, learn or connect with today? I suppose it’s an openness to life, an openness to experience, an openness to possibility and definitely an openness to learn. Best of all, it is fun!

I bet all great discoveries and all great … well anything really, started with someone being curious and then following their curiosity wherever it led, et viola ~ Magic!* Would humans explore space without being curious? Would we have invented the microscope if we were not curious? Would you have gone on that first date with the love of your life were you not curious about them or the potential of them?

Curiosity opens up worlds of potential, but there’s a catch. You have to meet that potential half way. You have to be willing to follow...
